Haddonfield School District Gifted & Talented Program |
Haddonfield School District has evaluated and improved our program to support gifted learners. Approximately ten percent of our students likely require specialized learning support. Students with a confluence of the three primary gifted behaviors are in need of specialized instruction. These three behaviors are passion on task, creativity, and test scores that are significantly higher than the norm for their age. Giftedness can be found in any age, demographic, and personality type. It is important that adults look hard to discover their potential and to support children as they strive to improve. To that end, the Haddonfield School District uses multiple measures to determine if a student is in need of specialized support for giftedness. |
Mission Statement: It is our responsibility to provide diverse, appropriate, and ongoing learning experiences that incorporate the academic and social needs of students. It is our responsibility to provide gifted students with educational alternatives that teach, challenge, and expand their knowledge, while simultaneously stressing the development of independent and self-directed learners who continuously generate questions, analyze, synthesize, and evaluate information and ideas. The Haddonfield School District’s gifted program is designed to meet the needs of those students who require a differentiated curriculum because they have abilities that significantly differ from their peers. These students come from all socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. We strive to accomplish this through providing a supportive environment conducive to risk-taking; opportunities for creative expression and problem solving; and collaboration with other students of similar abilities. |
Definition of Giftedness: Gifted and talented students are students who possess or demonstrate high levels of ability in one or more content areas when compared to their chronological peers in the district and who require modification of their educational program if they are to achieve in accordance with their capabilities. |
